Coles has admitted it underpaid employees in its supermarket and liquor stores by $20 million.

The total underpayments plus interest include $16 million for employees in its supermarket arm and $4 million for employees in its liquor division.

The company said it was reviewing arrangements for staff who were paid a salary under the General Retail Industry Award (GRIA) and had so far found about 5 per cent of supermarket and liquor store managers were not paid correctly.
