Primary carers will now have greater flexibility to take their government paid parental leave for any child born or adopted from 1 July 2020.

From 14 September 2020 they may take their leave in one of the following ways:

  • for a continuous period of up to 12 weeks (60 payable days)
  • plus 30 flexible days to be taken before the child turns 2
  • the employee can connect any portion of their flexible days to their initial 12 weeks up to a maximum of 18 weeks (90 payable days).
