Last month, the Fair Work Commission announced a 2.4 per
cent increase to the National Minimum Wage, Modern Award wage rates
and agreed base rates of pay. The minimum hourly rate for
adult workers will rise from $17.29 to $17.70 on 1 July
2016.

A record penalty of more than $400,000 has been imposed
against the operators of a 7-Eleven store which systematically
exploited its workers.

A federal judge has imposed record penalties of over
$300,000 and a precedent-setting Court Order for a businessman to
personally back-pay employees following a case involving the
underpayment of workers on the Gold Coast.
Over 40% of WA employers not compliant
Spot checks of employers in Western Australia’s Gascoyne
and Mid-West regions have found over 40% are not fully
compliant with their obligations under federal workplace
laws. Businesses were scrutinised to assess their compliance
with minimum wage rates, overtime and weekend penalty rates,
allowances, and pay-slip and record-keeping obligations.
Media Company Penalised 272k
The Federal Circuit Court has imposed a $272,850 penalty
against a media company to send it a “serious message” not to
disguise employment relationships as unpaid internships.
Fair Work Inspectors target NSW
The Fair Work Ombudsman has issued a media release advising that
it will audit employers in NSW as part of a new campaign. Fair Work
Inspectors will target businesses located in and around Dubbo,
Moree, Narrabri, Wellington and Narromine and will run until
August.
Coles Given 10 Days to Fix Fair Work Failures
In a decision published on Tuesday morning, the Fair
Work Commission ruled that the Coles EBA, which
covers some 77,000 employees, failed what is known as the better
off overall test (BOOT). For a workplace
agreement to be legal, all employees must be made better off when
an agreement is compared to the award.
Get set for a 2.4% wage increase
