Pizza Hut under fire for sham contracts
Australia’s second-biggest pizza chain, Pizza Hut, is under fire
as evidence emerges that its franchisees are using “sham” contracts
to pay delivery drivers as little as $12 an hour without super or
WorkCover.
Cafe fined $73,000 for underpaying workers
The former owner-operators of the Java Spice Café Emporium have
been fined a total of $73,000 for underpaying two backpackers.
Painting business fined $15,000
The operator of a Darwin painting business has been fined
$15,000 for deliberately exploiting four young overseas workers and
refusing to back-pay them thousands of dollars in unpaid
wages.
Fair Work Inspectors target western Sydney
The Fair Work Ombudsman is auditing businesses in western
Sydney to ensure employers are paying the correct
minimum hourly rates, penalty rates, allowances and loadings and
providing appropriate meal breaks.
Compliance with record-keeping and pay-slip obligations is
also being monitored.
