It’s time for a Modern Award for Small Business
Is it right, fair, or even logical for the little shop on
your corner to be bound by the same Modern Award that applies to
Australia’s largest retailers? David Bates, Managing Director of
Better HR explains in his latest Switzer blog why its time
for a Modern Award for Small Business.
Why written employment contracts matter
We really can’t over-emphasise the importance of good
contracts. Just imagine how much time, money and distress
could be saved by key terms of the employer/employee relationship
being put in writing and signed off by both parties.

conference attendee to ask: what would you do if you were the

Restaurant penalised for age discrimination and record-keeping law breaches
Brisbane restaurant operators penalised $29,150 for

Cafe operators face court
The operators of a café in Melbourne are to face court
over allegations they paid foreign students as little as $8 an
hour. A total of 22 employees were allegedly
underpaid more than $83,000.
The $90,000 wage mistake: Lessons for every employer
