Increase of Casual Weekend Penalty Rates

The Fair Work Commission made a decision to increase weekend casual penalty rates for casual employees under the Hair and Beauty Industry Award on 7 October 2021. The weekend penalty rate includes their casual loading.

These increases took effect from 31 January 2022 and will increase in five stages up to 31 December 2023. Please see the table below:

Overtime for FT and PT employees

From the first full pay period from 31 January 2022, permanent employees will receive overtime when working:

Full-time Hours

  • in excess of 38 hours
  • outside the spread of hours, or
  • in excess of the maximum daily hours.

Part-time Hours

  • in excess of the agreed part-time hours of work
  • outside the spread of ordinary hours, or
  • in excess of the maximum daily hours.
Overtime for casuals remains the same.

Maximum Daily hours

Any arrangements for full-time or part-time employees to work a second 10.5 hour day in a week need to be in writing.
