ABC Underpaid Staff $12 million
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has agreed to pay a
record $600,000 and backpay hundreds of employees after underpaying
them more than $12 million over six years.
Woolworths’ Employee Underpayments Blow Out To Almost $400M
Woolworths bill for employee underpayments has increased by
about $75 million to $390 million, after it identified “payment
shortfalls” in its hotels and liquor division, it told the ASX
today.
Modern Award Changes 2020
There have been significant changes to Modern Awards this year
as a result of the 4-yearly review. This is in addition to the
National Minimum Wage Case which takes effect in three stages from
1/7/2020.
Minimum wages to increase in 3 stages from 1 July 2020
The Fair Work Commission has announced a 1.75% increase to
the National Minimum Wage following its 2020 Annual Wage Review.
The increase applies in 3 stages.
Wage theft can now lead to 10 years in jail and fines up to $1 million in Victoria
The Victorian Government has passed a bill penalising the act of
deliberate wage theft with up to 10 years in jail and fines
of up to $1 million.
Changes to Award coverage for the vehicle manufacturing industry
From 29th May 2020, the Vehicle Manufacturing,
Repair, Services and Retail Award 2010 will be varied and become
the Vehicle Repair, Services and Retail Award [MA000089] 2020.
1 in 2 employees concerned about return to work
One in two workers feel uncomfortable about returning to

according to a recent study.
Modern Award Updates 29 May 2020
As part of the 4 yearly review of modern awards, the Full Bench
of the Fair Work Commission has continued to finalise the second
tranche of awards.
Major changes for Modern Award-free employees from 1 July 2020
From 1 July 2020, employers will need to ensure whether any
award-free employees are actually covered by the Miscellaneous
Award 2020.
